I love this kind of artwork! The inset action panels are unusual. I had an Otaki space tank kit and it was only years later that I learned the super box art was by Shigeru Komatsuzaki!
The Midori SF series was possibly the best, with their various Mogura vehicles, plus the classic Atlas Space tank (Giant Buzz-Saw in front, Flying Saucer launcher in back), but the double-trucked Vanguard might have been the best. Never managed to find one of those in my ebay travels. The closest thing I have to it is the Imai Space Invader Crawler, a two-sectioned space tank with all sorts of neat doo-dads on top.
And yes, the box art for that first wave of Japan SF kits was the best! Commercial product illustration in the classic style.
No, but great box art, as you say.
ReplyDeleteMish.
