Woodsy
I enjoyed your Gilbert action figures piece and have attached pics of some of the 1/6 figures I've had come and go over the years. They're always good trade stock even if you don't collect them yourself.
My fave is Moon McDare who has stayed with the collection.
You're welcome to post them on the blog and share them with the readers if you wish.

Looks like a Quatermass alien has crept in?
ReplyDeleteThat's a QuaterGilbert Andy! ha ha
DeleteYou're right, well spotted, Andy. A gift from a chap who worked the Underground in Hobbs Ends :)
ReplyDeleteNot that guy with the fancy drill was it Tone?
DeleteSo legend has it, Woodsy... so legend has it, ha ha :)
DeleteMoon McDare had all the best gear, firing speargun, ticking geiger counter and a space mutt! Ive never seen the figure outside of the catalogue, so this is a real treat
ReplyDeleteThanks Bill. Moon McDare was the best of the bunch for me and did have some imaginative accessories. Although for an action figure with very limited articulation, he became all but ridgid once sealed inside his spacesuit. Nonetheless, I still think he does look pretty cool for a vintage toy spaceman from the sixties :)
DeleteWow, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. dolls. James Bond, U.N.C.L.E., Honey West, and Lady Penelope, I am in serious danger of taking up doll collecting. Although I doubt I could afford such vintage pieces.
ReplyDeleteThankfully, I was fortunate enough to get into collecting early, Paul, although an ad in your local classifieds may net a loft find. These old gems are still out there waiting to be found :)
DeleteLooks like GILBERT managed a lot of uses for the RAISES ARM AND SHOOTS CAP FIRING PISTOL mechanism.
ReplyDeleteYes, perhaps a neat gimmick and selling point at the time, unfortunately few of these fragile cap firing mechanisms have stood the test of time, Brian :)
DeleteI remember buying Ilya and Napoleon (separately, some time apart) in Safeway back in the '60s. They each came in a poly bag with a header card. I'm unsure whether they were repackaged Gilbert figures, but they had limited movement and, going from memory, the faces seemed the same.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the Ilya knockoff was this one boxed on Worthpoint Kid? https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/man-uncle-12-illya-kuryakin-action-508153914
DeleteMaybe this was the Napoleon Solo doll you had Kid too? This is boxed and clothed https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/486248091010204507/?nic_v2=1anKcOKcK Apparently they were released by Cecil Coleman and even Yolt? All new to me!
DeleteThat's interesting, Kid. I've never seen any 1/6 UNCLE action figures with header card packaging. Gilbert of KO, they'd be nice to see or even have in a collection today :)
ReplyDeleteHere's a knockoff Ilya clothed Tone. Its new to me too. https://www.pinterest.de/pin/372743306639799602/?nic_v2=1anKcOKcK
Deleteand here's a whole thread about similar knockoff James Bond dolls by Cecil Coleman Yolt? Who are they? https://www.ajb007.co.uk/topic/35519/cecil-coleman-dolls/
ReplyDeleteGreat finds, Woodsy. I've heard of the Cecil Colemen Bond, but the KO Ilya is new to me. Wonder if the one shown was a one-off fan made figure and box?
DeleteGood God, there's even a knockoff Girl from Uncle doll by Linda and the box art looks like Honey West! https://www.pinterest.co.uk/jamesdougert/cecil-colemans-007-uncle-action-figures-of-the-196/
DeleteI suppose we'll never know it its fan made Tone.
DeleteThat is certainly Honey West, rather than April Dancer from The Girl From U.N.C.L.E. Two shows I never got to see back in the 1960s.
ReplyDeleteGlad you agree its Honey too Paul.
