Some more View-Master photos, this time from the 1979 Disney film, The Black Hole. Way back in 1979 I would have been looking through the plastic lenses of my View-Master viewer, but as the transparencies are fairly small, and the photo quality certainly isn't HD , these enlarged images leave a little to be desired when it comes to sharpness.
The images used are a forced 3-D using what looks like combinations and montages of publicity shots, so a bit of a cheat, but still a nice piece of nostalgic Black Hole merchandise.
I've got the paper wallet packaging version. Your posts prompted me to pull out my Viewmaster collection for another look. Sadly the paper wallets are disintegrating, but apart from some slight surface paper wrinkling, the discs are fine.
ReplyDeleteThe photo composite presentations like Black Hole, Star Trek TMP and Close Encounters were a real cheat and haven't improved with time, whereas Lost in Space, UFO and Space 1999 are as good today as the day they were shot!
I think I prefer the paper wallet versions, Lewis, but I suppose the change was in some part down to cost cutting and making it easier to display using the card version.
DeleteI've got Star Trek TMP and like you say, a cheat, just publicity photos tweaked to look 3-D.
I think the next set I'll post will be the UFO one which is still pretty good and has some nice model shots.
