A little postscipt to the Hamleys reveries from Paul A in New Zealand.
"What an amazing place that must have been. The plastic red double decker bus has Hamleys of Regent Street on the side. This reminded me that Lledo also did a set of diecast Hamleys models, in the 1980s. These were all standard Lledo models, with the Hamleys name on the side. Not sure how many were in the set, and the only one I have is DG3, the Horse Drawn Delivery Van."
Being on Regent Street in London, a bus spotters paradise, there was always a red double decker bus with Hamleys name on the side sold. They were often plastic Hong Kong made but at one point I'm pretty certain that the Tudor Rose Routemaster was one of them. LLEDO was a natural choice as their business was many custom printed buses and vans as company promotions. Over the years I collected a few vans for hardware/iron mongers or food venders who never actually used that vehicle but sold it as a promotion.
ReplyDeleteActually, I am in New Zealand not Australia - that is on the other side of the Tasman Sea.
