I noticed this on Todocollecion.
It reminded me how much I liked pencil cases as a kid and I'm sure I had space themed cases like this wooden one.
When I think back I sense that pens, pencils, paper and pencil cases formed an important part of my childhood.
Did you have any pencil cases as a kid and do you still have any?
I remember getting a red pencil case as either a Sunday School prize or Sunday School Christmas party gift. It was a vinyl-type wallet affair with a 'stud' on it. You opened and unfolded it, and inside were most things you usually find in a kids pencil case. A few years later, while still having my red one, I bought a black one - just 'cos I liked it. Don't have either of them now, alas
ReplyDeleteHowever, I've now got several tin pencil cases featuring Yogi Bear, The Magic Roundabout, The Daleks, Honey Monster, and probably quite a few others that escape me for the moment.
I remember those vinyl cases Kid. I liked them too. I was forever putting papers into different folders and cases. In the end it helped some things survive childhood and stay with me into adulthood. Like my drawings of The Acrobat, WHICH i still have somewhere. I like your tin pencil cases. Tins and pencils go well together.

ReplyDeleteThe only pencil case from my childhood is the one I made myself at school in Woodwork, at the age of 12 or 13, which I still have.
ReplyDeleteIt had a pivoting sliding lid.
Don't think I ever kept pencils in it, just small knick knacks, coins, badges e.t.c.
Mish.
Ah. Woodwork Mish. I must have made things but can't recall anything. Metalwork neither. Your pivoting sliding case sounds brill. You must have been good!
DeleteI made a coat hook in metalwork when I was about 13 or so. My Dad hung his work coat on it until he retired. It now has my collection of original Star Cops costumes hanging on it!
ReplyDeleteThere's something poetic about this Kevin, son makes coathanger, Dad hangs coat on it. Love it.
DeleteI wasn't really all that good Woodsy, I just followed the plans, as it were.
ReplyDeleteI didn't go on to do Woodwork at 'O' level even.
Oddly, I also made a coat hook in Metalwork, like Kevin D, but I don't have any futuristic blue overalls hanging from it.
Mish.
I ditched Metalwork at O level Mish to do something else but can't think what. I remember our really tall woodwork teacher slipped on some gravy or custard outside the dining hall and injured his leg. He limped after for years poor sod. I never made a coat hanger like you and Kev.
