This lovely BHS Explorer 12 Polar Set appeared on Worthpoint years ago so I'm borrowing the picture.
I was too old for Explorer 12. It was a UK toy range for a later generation in the early 80's.
But Explorer 12 has enough Supermarionation chops to excite a Sixties kid like me and I suspect many of the Gerry Anderson generation.
It seems to combine elements of Thunderbirds, SpaceX and everything we like.
The magazine advertising and tie-in book art was also done by none other than Mike Noble!
Has anyone got the polar set?
What are the four silver balls for?
The four silver balls are for an impromptu game of Boules, should the opportunity arise.
ReplyDeleteMish.
ha ha, I laughed out loud when I read that Mish! They'd be on ice as well as its polar! Polar boules!
DeleteIve got all the BHS E12 vehicles, maybe minus a colour variation or two. This is actually the Ocean Explorer set, missing the big balloon tyre attachments. The Polar set is white. The balls are supposed to be fuel cells for the base set - but used for Boule when empty!

Ah, the Ocean set. Boules would just sink. E12 is a range I have hardly ever seen at car boot sales and not that many toy fairs. I love them though. Is it a rare condition Wote?
DeleteSinking Boules? Yes, its incurable
