When I first saw this on an online sale I thought it was a Morgan toy car.
Closer inspection of the pictures lead me to the outboard motor!
Yes, its a boat stuffed into a car!
How cool is that!
The 2 in 1 Land Sea Beach Comber!
What do you think?
Reminds me of the conclusion to the famous 'Live And Let Die' Bond movie boat chase.
ReplyDeleteMish.
It does Mish. See what you mean!
DeleteWhat a really great toy. I would have loved one as a boy.
ReplyDeleteMe too Paul.
DeleteI actually owned two of these as a kid. Well two of the original version. This is a large toy, quite wide and you could fit the riders from Hot Wheels Rumblers in the seats. If I recall correctly, mine came in a box not a bag.
ReplyDeleteThis appears to be a copy of the first version I had. Mine was a less orange red, the green wheel hubs and headlights were chrome on mine. My steering wheel was blue, the motor was blue over white with a chrome piece on the top. The horn was also chrome as was the propeller. The windscreen had a bluish tint instead of all clear.
The weak spot is the small post/ball joint the engine uses to mount to the aft. It breaks fairly easily and when used on the carpet instead of the pool/lake/tub, it was pushed at an angle due to extending just below the hull.
This was "fixed" in the second one I got. The motor was made smaller, one piece an the prop was molded in place. It resolved the breakage issue but was not as realistic looking.
My two and this one have the same sticker on it. No clue as to who made it but my best guess is Processed Plastics or MPC. I've seen a couple of these show up on ebay but seems I did not save the pics.
You have such a good memory Lance! Yep, its sounds like a smart toy and a clever design. I would have enjoyed it as a kid too. The boat looks really neat. Reminds me of the FP Adventure People toy boat years later. I wonder if the box art was the same as the header art?
