I like this gorgeous tin litho toy boat and box I saw on Worthpoint. Never seen it before!
This Captain Kidd Pirate Ship was made in Japan by Yonezawa in the 1960’s. It measures 13” long, 5” wide and 5” tall without the mast, 13” tall including the mast. It has the Yonezawa trademark on the bottom of the ship and it has FRANKONIA on the box.
It has 4 actions which include a bump’n go action, it shoots a roll of caps, smoking cannons, and flashing lights with silhouettes of pirates fighting illuminate the rear. Wow!
The box comes with cut outs of Pirates, Treasure Chests, Cannons, Cannon Ball, and a Skull Flag.
You got one or seen one?
I agree with you totally - Wow. That is a great toy, with lots of action features. Just one thing, is this really the sort of ship Captain Kidd would have used ? I do not know much about sailing ships, but the dragon in the bows, and the central gunhouse, look more Asian than Western. I have certainly never seen this beauty before.
ReplyDeleteLithographed tin was such a sublime cultural moment...
