Hello Woodsy,
In this age of insanity why not turn to that pillar of reason, Spike Milligan!
For many years I was fascinated by this book and that anyone would even think to research the photo archives to create it.
Being a Londoner that grew up taking red double deck buses everywhere one entry in particular struck me. Over the years I put aside the components for this project and recently decided to put it together.
I never managed to find a good figure for the mahout so that will have to wait. Meanwhile this little vignette will have to suffice.

That is the best model omnibus I have ever seen. Is that the Lledo horse-drawn bus model ? What a pity the photo captions in the book are of the 'silly' variety, it would be fascinating to know the real story behind this strange vehicle.
ReplyDeleteI have just discovered there was a second book on the same lines, called Further Transports of Delight, again by Spike Milligan. Both books seems to have been issued with various covers.
ReplyDeleteThat was the LLEDO horse drawn bus. The captions in the book are perfectly normal, for Milligan that is.
ReplyDeleteI once wrote to Spike about his books of poetry and his daughter's drawings. he was kind enough to reply too! Circa 1981 when I lived on a bird reserve.
