SC5 ROCKET TRANSPORT |
As we have seen the Lone Star Modern Army series on the blog recently, I thought I would fetch out my LS Space Commander series of vehicles from 1983. Issued just be before Lone Star went to the wall, these were the compaies attempt to jump on the space bandwagon rolling by in the wake of Star Wars.
A basic casting and the re-use of the existing weapons, meant they could be cheaply produced. The radar scanner on the Galactic Scanner gives an indication of their provenance, with the fifties style of open mesh dish, used on the early Modern Army trucks. The Solar activator was missing the searchlight attachment, so this one is a custom. I also came across another green truck without a payload, so I added a Meccano rocket launcher instead!

The Lone Star Modern Army Series of diecasts was in support of their toy soldiers. This is the first time I've seen these Space Commander vehicles and the question I have is what figures go with them?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, this is the sum total of the line. Despite headlining in the 1983 catalogue, they never extended the line, as the company went bust shortly after. Theres a small moulded figure innthe cab, so the scale would be about 2” high figures, so tricky to match them up with existing figures. The closest would be the few which come with the Matchbox Adventure 2000 series toys
ReplyDeleteWhat a groovy Hot Wheels-style design, with a touch of C21 in there!
ReplyDeleteIts a fabulous looking range Wote. Multi-wheeled futurism. Are those SpaceX tyres?
ReplyDeleteClosely copied frim Spacex wheels, I suspect.
