This old piccy is in my photo archive. I will have captured it from Ebay I think years ago. Its clearly a painting of the Sixties TV series The Invaders.
But what was it for? A game box? A VHS cover? Any ideas?
You have actually shown this before under the title Invaders Art, and the labels art and books. It is an original book cover design from the 1960s. The Invaders: Alien Missile Threat was a hardback book published by US publishing house Whitman in 1967. The printed version was glued directly to the hardcovers, as far as I know these Whitman books did not have separate dust jackets, unless the few I have are simply missing theirs. Whitman did a lot of official TV tie-in books in the 1960s, with either painted or photo covers. There are various instructions written around the edges. The lower right corner says 50%, which I assume is the amount the artwork is to be reduced by for printing. The outer edges are marked TURN IN, which would be the amount of the design that is wrapped around the inside cover, and glued down. The lines in the centre are for the spine, and an allowance for the hinge part. Sorry, I do not know enough about publishing to know what the rest of the markings are - this is not my side of things. A copy of the final book is sitting on top of the artwork, on the left, to show what the end result looked like. I do not know if these Whitman books were based on TV episodes, or if the stories were original. Yes, I like The Invaders, and have both seasons on DVD, tucked away in a box somewhere. I watched the series when it first screened in NZ. Years later it was repeated, and I watched it again. Not sure if I have anything related to the series in my collection, although there was a kit by Aurora released in 1968 as the UFO, and re-issued in the 1970s as the Flying Saucer.

Paul there's a very thorough website on the Invaders models (note page 2 too). You cannot get much more accurate than this!
