Hello Woodsy,
Couldn't find what I was looking for but did find these. The funny thing is I didn't think I had a money box collection?
Bart Simpson was in TV commercials for Butterfinger Candy Bars. This was a container of bit size Butterfinger bars. The head removes to reach coins.
Goofy was purchased just because I found it a colourful and charming pose.
The Bugs Bunny Statue of Liberty was a limited sales item from the Warner Brothers store on Fifth Avenue back in the 90's. Disney had a rival store nearby. Both companies sold original animation cells and their brand merchandise.
The Animated Batman. The best of all modern Batman incarnations.
Lifesavers are the same as POLO in the UK.
Mr Peanut the sales icon for Planter's Peanuts. This one was a mail in promotion that I never got around to painting. Removing the top hat was the way into the coin cache.
The NYC bus was purchased because it was an authourised city bus on my local route. The fact it was a money box was incidental.
So there we have a collection of money boxes that weren't collected, it just happened!

Goofy, the bus, and Bugs Bunny as the Statue of Liberty get my vote, the bus is a really nice model. Surely Mr Peanut would be rather fragile if he were ever filled with coins ? Batman is very nice, but looks a little odd being only a half-figure. The Lifesavers roll is nice, simple and clean. It reminds me of the round tin money boxes in the shape of a red British letter box that I remember from when I was little, although I never had one. It seems to be a lot easier to get into modern money boxes/banks than the older types, you generally no longer have to cut your way in, ruining the box.
ReplyDeleteThey do look rather cool don't they Paul. You've started something with yours!
DeleteYup, got a few. Several different Yogi Bear ones, several diverse post box ones, 'phone box one, Batman one, and various assorted others, including a 1960s RSB globe one. I've got more money banks than I have money in the bank, put it that way.
ReplyDeleteha ha, that last line made me chuckle kid!
DeleteActually, the photos of my money boxes that I sent in were in response to the earlier posts on Spanish money boxes, which mostly had a space theme. So it is not really me that is responsible for all the attention now being paid to money boxes. However I am enjoying all the coverage, a fun and colourful subject.
ReplyDelete'attention paid to money boxes' - a nice pun Paul intended or not! More money boxes to come!
DeleteUnintended - I did not even realise it was a pun until you pointed it out. Glad to hear there are more to come.
