I've found a few more cool shiny toys by Spanish outfit Vilpa.
The Hucha capsule has a variety of coloured tops.
Hucha means piggy bank.
Red
Green
Blue showing the coin slot
The Capsule base showing the combination lock
The flying Saucer bank.
The box side.
Platillo Volador means flying saucer. Ovni means UFO.
The Blue version.
The combination lock on the base of the red saucer.
Here's shiny lamp.
A shiny rocket
and my personal favourite, a castle piggy bank! God, I would have loved this as a nipper!
What do you think readers?
Thank you for a really fun post, and the Spanish lesson. I never had a combination lock on a Piggy Bank. I too love the castle, with its castle ghost. Presumably, this pops up when a coin is inserted ? Making it what the Americans call a Mechanical Bank - what is the British term for a money box with working parts ? I do not have any books on the subject, but I know that collecting banks is popular in America - now I can see why.
ReplyDeleteYoure welcome Paul. Not sure if we have a different name for mechanical banks. My fave as a kid was a skeleton's hand that came out of a coffin to take my penny! Such a classic design that I think its still made now!
DeleteI think the hand or skeleton hand design has been around for a very long time. Never had one of those. Did have a china Humpty Dumpty, and a few plastic ones put out by various banks. I also have a couple of diecast models - a Cadbury chocolates truck, and a Ford Tri-motor aeroplane. There are other designs around, but as they have to have a coin compartment, they tend to be fairly large, which also means fairly expensive. If I am not careful, I may be tempted in to collecting money boxes as well, but where would I put them ?
ReplyDeleteWow - once again, the toys are delightful, and those BOXES are just too cool to be true. Nothing like vintage graphics!
ReplyDeleteThe boxes look glorious Zigg I agree. Like the X-series of JR21. See labels below if you want a gander.
DeleteOld reader and contributor Ferryman had all the X-series toys in his collection. Its labelled too.
DeleteMuchísimas gracias por tan preciosa recopilación y trabajo... Es posible conseguir una reproducción de la caja de la hucha-castillo ? Muchísimas gracias...
ReplyDeleteHallo Pablo. All of the pictures are from the internet. I do not own any of the toys or boxes. Sorry.
