"Message from Space" is a Japanese sci fi movie that was made in the late 70's, no doubt to cash in on the Star Wars craze.Ive never seen the movie so I couldn't tell you if this ship is actually in the film.
The clue is in the top left corner where it says 'Message From Space'. This was a low budget foreign (maybe Japanese) sci fi movie from the late seventies, cashing in on the success of Star Wars. Have never seen it, but guessing the kit was of one of the fighter type ships featured in it (probably called Comets, as named on the box lid). Mish.
It's from the 1978 Japanese movie and TV series 'Message from Space'. I believe Bandai made the kits and Entex distributed them outside of Japan. Part of the post Star Wars rip-off/boom. There were three kits - Comet Fire fighter, Galaxy Runner fighter and the Liabe. The Comet fire and galaxy runner could dock with the Liabe to form the Liabe special. The kits are extremely rare now. Quite a find.
Great find!. It's a very rare kit. As Brian says it's from the 1978 Japanese 'Message from Space' movie and spin off TV series. Star wars rip-off with space galleons that Japanese SF anime seems to like. Bandai made four kits and I believe they were distributed outside Japan by Entex. The kits were the Comet Fire fighter, Galaxy Runner fighter, Liabe, and Liabe special. They're quite large - about 8 inches long or so. The Comet Fire and Galaxy Runner could dock either side of the Liabe to make the Liabe special. IIRC The Liabe special kit itself was smaller but you got all the ships together.
Thanks fr the great info Yorkie, its a new line in me. The kit is on Etsy altho' I can't tell if its in Singapore or the USA https://www.etsy.com/sg-en/listing/729030845/message-from-space-comet-fire-model-kit?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=entex+kit&ref=sr_gallery-1-1&organic_search_click=1
