When the Ark II series was over, CBS wanted their vehicle back only they had only paid for the rickety truck chassis the Ark had been built on. Lou Scheimer being a tough business man gave them what they had paid for an kept the Ark II body as Filmation had paid an built it. The boy was moidfied into the full scale Seeker prop.
Ark II would have been a favourite of mine in the 70's I'm sure, has all the right elements.
