I always like seeing toys I had appearing in different parts of the world. Its good to know I had kindreds across the globe back in the Sixties and early Seventies.
Major Matt Mason was a major part of my life [ see what I did there ] but I never had a Scorpio. I think the Mason expedition to the planets had run out of fuel before my Mum and Dad could get a purple alien. Or maybe there weren't any Scorpio's in Preston, although Bill got one down the road in Liverpool!
Anyway, kids in Mexico had Scorpio's courtesy of Mexican toy importers CIPSA. Its fun to find CIPSA stuff on the net and see if there are differences to Mattel's originals. So, here's the CIPSA Scorpio from their Capitan Meteoro range, which I assume means Captain Meteor, a rather nifty name if you ask me!
Did you or do you have a Scorpio or any CIPSA toys?
This image of Scorpio is courtesy of Ebay 2016.
I think some good toys came out of Mexico in the 70s, Woodsy. As well as CIPSA, Lili Ledy also produced some great stuff, including Star Wars figures, their version of GI Joe, and many more popular toy themes. Stuff often saught by collectors today. I do like the box graphics for the CIPSA Scorpio :)
ReplyDeleteYes, Lili Ledy, great stiff from them Tone I agree. Billy Blastoff and even SpaceX. I imagine the Star Wars stuff has been on the sights of SW collector completists allover the world eh!
DeleteMine wasn't from Liverpool, but a gift from our mutual friend Terry. he did originate somewhere in England though. There is a recast green version of Scorpio available from a modern creator, fan made, he is again excellent quality
ReplyDeleteAh. Its not Terry's, its yours! Did you ever get his balls to float? As for a green Scorpio, Callisto has something to say about THAT!
DeleteBeen looking for ages for CIPSA Kid Acero version of Mattel Space: 1999 Zython, but when on offer he always comes scantily dressed and never boxed. One day!
ReplyDeleteThere's a prolific Mexican collector called Madhunter Arto who seems to be the Toy Hunter of his country. Have you ever asked him to find one for you maybe?
DeleteWoodsy's spot on again. Worth checking him out on youtube, Arto. He has some great vintage stuff. Hope you track that figure down :)
DeleteThanks for the tip guys! Never heard of Madhunter before, will check asap.
