Hello Woodsy,
I purchased this tinplate car in New York in 1974 when I moved to the US. At the time I was attracted to the fact that:
1) It was so garish
2) It had the BOAC logo all over it while in the UK BOAC was being combined with BEA to both be named British airways.
Yes, a lower case a for airways which promptly changed a short time later to British Airways. Heaven only knows how much money was wasted over that branding re launch.
British Airways became the largest employer on Long Island for all their staff at Kennedy Airport both passenger and cargo. None of their road vehicles were ever so obviously marked and I spend many trips over the years going through JFK.
It has no markings as to make or country of origin.

Beautiful toy. I love old tinplate :)
ReplyDeleteThose are not 1:64 scale, right? 1:32?
ReplyDeleteI never had tinplate cars, only normal diecasts or the plastic ones from plastic Army Men toys
The Crescent sodier is 1/32 so the car is a slightly larger scale
DeleteI think it says Made in Japan at the base of the rear window Terran. A lovely toy story. I had a similar Police Car. I loved its straight lines. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FQb3tH4nZ8E/UwM1LOtYMJI/AAAAAAAAd3o/5joHoHvdbPo/s1600/Tin+Police+car+Hong+Kong+001.JPG
ReplyDeleteThank you Woodsy. It does say Made in Japan and I never noticed that in 44 years!
DeleteAs it has no form of motor I had always thought it might be by Ohio Art as it was on a counter with their brand of cars but they always had theire logo boldly printed on the model.
Your'e welcome. Another part of its story! I hope your young Grandson enjoys his toys as much as we did as kids.
