Back in 2009 Ferryman posted pics of his fabulous LP collection including this wonderful 'ASTRONAUT' with the Moonbus-like MOON EXPLORER pictured on the box.
Whilst mooching through my Ebay picture archives I came across what appears to be the same figure - this time silver, Japanese and described as a Diver made by (?) or named Tetsujin.
The nautical Diver backing card really doesn't fit the figure to my mind. You?
Does anybody know more about this robot-like character?
Tetsujin - means iron man in japanese and is often used to describe robots. tetsujin -28 is a famous anime character, who appeared in europe as Gigantor. Interestingly, this toy is holding two Action Man Naval Flare Guns too!

ReplyDeleteInteresting. Why would LP choose an anime character for a space toy? Was Tetsujin known in Europe and the UK in the Sixties Bill?
DeleteTetsujin was massive in the far east, so it would be easy for LP to pick up a mould for the toy and tie into the sixties robot craze generally in Europe. Plus, there was Gigantor (the US version) and that frankenstine robot on the Impossibles show.
