I don't collect Gerry Anderson dolls and figures but I have always taken an interest in them as I had a few like the Fairylite Parker as a kid.
One figure I have seen at toy fairs and in reference books is the little Joe 90 doll by Pedigree with his dapper red PVC suit on.
However, recently I have seen two mysterious references to this doll and if it isn't the same it;s darn similar.
The first is this one on the Vectis auction site, which describes him, stood next to Lady P, as the TV21 'Andy' doll. Huh?
The second mystery is this Pedigree doll, which I snapped on my phone. It was in a toy reference guide somewhere this year, but I forget where. Here the little fella's called 'Candy'. Who?
So readers, Andy, Candy, Joe 90? What the WIN's Most Special Agent is going on?
Is it a case, or cases, of mistaken identity? Mixing up Candy and Andy dolls for your average Joe?
So, I thought I'd best double check if the actual Gerry Anderson's comic Andy and Candy dolls were similar to TV's Joe 90 or not.
Above we have the two doll children Andy and Candy. They lived with two plush pandas.
Candy and Andy appear to be the same doll with different amounts of blonde hair. Were they specially made for the comic?
In a bizarre twist of product placement, here they are delivering their own comic on the cover of their own comic!
And above is Joe 90, the more famous of the Anderson puppet blondes.
It has to be said that he does look somewhat similar to Candy and Andy and I could well imagine his Pedigree doll likeness being mistaken for either of them!
I shall consult my Dennis Nicholson guide next!
Or maybe a Pedigree doll expert!
Or you readers?
