This sextant-style rocket launcher is an old design.
I've seen stand-alone versions like this and where it's added to other toys.
Here it is on top of Bill B's LP Tanks
My favourite has to be an LP Moon Explorer with the launcher on top.
Can't find an image of it on the blog though.
Anyone know the origin of this old rocket launcher toy?
The answer to the origin is in the Bill B link. Lone Star's diecast version in the 50's was first, the Hong kong plastic copies followed.
ReplyDeleteBut where did Lone Star get it from T?
DeleteI have never seen a metal version that is older than the Lone Star one which I think was 1957/58. Since living in the US I have not seen a similar item by Hubley, Tootsie Toy or any other US maker of metal toys except possibly Structo which is similar but not close enough to be the disinctive Lone Star one.
DeleteId agree with Terra, Lone Star produced it first, the design takes into account the heavy metal body, which is carefully balanced by the crescent shape on the bottom
