Been out all night. Now home having a cold beer and watching Kolchak: The Night Strangler from 1974. Set in Seattle its about a killer who's over a hundred years old.
Really enjoying it. I thought we'd blogged about the other TV film before, The Night Stalker, but we haven't. That's excellent as well.
This is similar and has the same film noir newspaper hack style.
Kolchak was like a sort of X-Files back then.

Do you like Kolchak?
Watched them all back then, staying up late with my dad, eating fish and chips.
ReplyDeleteGreat TV horror mystery shows
Darren McGavin was the actor, I think. He also starred in a 'detective' series,"The Outsider", playing a similar character, but solving more ordinary crimes.
Fond memories.
Cheers.
Mish.
What a wonderful memory Mish. With your Dad. I think Kolchak was the original X-Files and was pleased to read that he starred in the X-Files [I think] and the similar series Millennium with lance Henriksen. Kolchak was first though!
DeleteCount me in as a Kolchak fan, Woodsy. I loved the movies as a kid. Kolchak was an ace old school reporter, from the typewriter generation of journalism, with a signature hat, second rate camera and a single suit to his name. I have the TV series on DVD for those chilled out weekend breaks :)
ReplyDeleteI was convinced that I'd written about Kolchak before Tone and we'd discussed him in the comments like this but I haven't. Kolchak deserves a closer look I reckon.
