These two pictures sent by a blog reader years ago are two of the most exciting images I've ever been sent.
They are old Japanese candy ads from magazines and feature, amazingly, Project SWORD!
You can see the Booster Rocket on the box art of the yellow box and more importantly the Project SWORD badge outline on the box side in the bottom picture.
I would LOVE to know more about these adverts and in particular the name of the brand of candy and anything else that you can translate into English!
Hi Woodsy,
ReplyDeleteThe spacesuit the boy is wearing looks quite close to Major Matt Mason's moon suit! I'm guessing the ads probably came out about the same time as Major Matt.

Hi Jim, thats a good observation. Major Matt Mason is a good marker for sure.

Wild guess: Could the bottom line in the first picture be a date? Showa 44 = 1969, thus 30 June 1969. Perhaps an end date for a competition, with rules & prizes displayed on the page.
ReplyDeletefab that Arto! A date! 1969 is quite late in the history of Project SWORD. It would be great to get the whole 2 pages translated somehow!
