Hot on the heels of their recent announcement regarding new 12”
Eagle sets, Sixteen 12 collectables now
have plans to release a Space: 1999 Laser Tank set , Hawk spacecraft from ‘War
Games’, and a tribute model of the Dinky Eagle to go with those 1/72 scale models.
No photos have been released as yet; however Sixteen 12 collectables
previous incarnation, Product Enterprise did include a Laser Tank model with
their 2006 Deluxe Eagle set which might give an idea of what’s in store.
This lovely little 1/72 model was a great addition to the
set, and releasing a new set will make great diorama accessories for the 1/72
scale Eagles.
Three Alpha Laser tanks will be included in the set – The Eagle
Beak type; The Flat Bed type; and the Bubble Cockpit.
These vehicles, first seen in the episode, The Infernal
Machine, appeared throughout the series. These vehicles are the surface based
workhorses, and were designed to help in the initial construction of Moonbase
Alpha, carry out maintenance, as well as help defend it. The photo above shows the original props displayed at Smallspace a couple of years ago.
Each features a pilot figure, and a display diorama, and
like the Eagle sets are limited to 1000 units.
Prices have yet to be announced.
Although it only appeared in one episode, War Games, the
Mark IX Hawk has been a popular design especially with modellers.
Sixteen 12 propose to release two 10" versions – one in the distinctive
orange and white livery as seen in the episode, and a special edition in its
original white paint job.
This photo from the Alpha:2014 convention shows two splendid SAW kits Hawk models built by modelling maestro Chris Potter. Thanks to Gordon Moriguchi for the additional info.
Finally, for now a Retrospective Eagle Transporter which
celebrates the Dinky version from 1975.
This is a charming idea, and for those of us of a certain
age it does conjure up memories of picking up this great looking die-cast in its
distinctive green paint scheme (I got mine prior to the show being premiered in
the UK, so I wasn’t about to criticise the colour) and unique look. Although like everyone, I did swap things round when the white freighter came out a little later!
This model will come with a retrospective bubble display
packaging and is limited to only 500 units.
Again, prices are yet to be announced.
For those with an interest in these, and some other goodies I've not mentioned, here's an update from Sixteen 12 Collectables.
