In January a mystery red space truck toy was identified by reader Maddox as coming from the Hot Wheels Space Patrol Command Centre.
This week another toy was identified as coming from this same space centre by reader Realaze on a post by Bill B 7 years ago, Its Raining Men!
Patience is clearly a virtue in the world of toy ID.
It relates to the white figure at the right end of this line-up named as Astro Recon by Bill B and hailing from an unknown ship
Realaze has realized that its also from the Hot Wheels Space Patrol set.
As Realaze points out it can be seen in Maddox's own You Tube video here https://youtu.be/GrP8zgzpMM0?t=11m43s
I assume that the white figure fits into any of the spaceships in the set, the white rocket or the small black one that looks like a Dinky Trident Starfighter.
You can watch all 17 minutes of Maddox's video here if you want. It looks an amazingly detailed set with tons of play value.
Has anyone got one?
What a very interesting set! It evokes so many eras. We have a nice launching pad, worthy of NASA and quite influenced by the shuttle I suspect given the unique nose holding mechanism which is quite similar to what was atop the big orange booster tank.
ReplyDeleteThe white "shuttle" evokes Project Sword. The twin engines at the sides evokes the SRBs of the shuttle. However what intrigues me most about it is the swing wings. That section of the craft looks like it would at home on an F-14. The wings look the same, the tail looks similar. The part of the fuselage atop the wings looks very much like that section of the F-14. The angles look out of place with all the roudness of the rest of the ship. A mash of parts to make a new toy? Who knows but a great ship nonetheless.
The fighter really caught my eye. On the box it looked like it was based off a ST"TNG Klingon attack cruiser http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/i338/rturnbow/Toyssmall-37.jpg for reference. Quite a similar shape and well, the front is a unique shape. Playmates did make several small playsets of ST ships that opened up and had a small mini figure inside to play with but I can't find any trace they actually made any Klingon ship besides the Bird of Prey. Then I thought maybe they reversed the insides of the Cardassian ship since its engine area looks very similar to the Klingon's front but nope, that wasn't it either. I'll have to chalk that design up to heavily influenced by yet original.
Overall a wonderful set and thanks for sharing it!
Here's the Playmates mini playset ships that I know of https://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/memoryalpha/images/0/0e/Playmates_Star_Trek_Innerspace_Series_2.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120823042220&path-prefix=en and yes, instead of giving us a couple more ST:TNG ships, we got a Apollo Command Module and Lander in the mix. I had no idea those existed and now I kind of want them lol.
Cheers Lance, glad you like that set. You've made some great observations and taking another look at the white shuttle rocket ship I can see what you mean. I can also see some Thunderbird 2 in there as well! I see what you mean about the Klingon style fighter. The Playmates mini playset looks cool too and thanks for the link.
Deleteive got the apollo star trek toys lance, they are a bit weird, tbh! ill see if i can find them, theyre still unopened. Ive also got that white ship, which the guy came in. It was listed on ebay as coming from a Corgi space playset! I think it has a soundchip in it, but also rather unfortunately resembles a sex toy!
