I love the idea of space cakes.
Don't think I ever got one!
It was obviously popular in the Sixties and Seventies judging by the number of space cake toppers there were.
Above is a catalogue page for space toppers I saw online including a neat Gemini spacecraft.
Also online was this packet of LP/ SpaceX style golden astronauts with cake skewers that I've not seen before. The little yellow alien looks familiar but can't think why! You?
Anyone got any space cake decorations?
Well, not sure if this is the source of your thoughts, but when I saw the alien, my first thought was of the old stress relief alien squeezey toy. Here's what I am referencing http://wcinsights.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/stress-ball-alien-thing.jpg I think that design has been around since the 70s.
ReplyDeleteDoes the header art make you think of the old Hot Wheels logo? It does to me with the swoop underneath. Not identical just a similar style as these are probably from a very close time frame.
Yes Lance! the squeezy stress toy! I see it! ha ha. Its stressfull up there on the top of the cake for those astronauts! Looking at the picture, is that a bullworker the alien's holding?
DeleteFor some reason the cake company Wiltons springs to mind when I see that Alien.
I do see what you mean about the swirly Hot Wheels lettering. It is a cool style. I wonder of Mattel trademarked the font?
