These little monsters are available in Wilkos in the UK at present. Part of their party favours offer they come in a small baggy and are beautifully sculpted with smooth edges and bright colours. There are four different dinosaurs in each bag. I would have adored them as a kid!
As soon as I saw them on the shop rack I thought of much older sets like these MPC dinosaurs and wondered if they were Wilkos' inspiration?
Googling plastic dinosaurs I was amazed just how many have been made and continue to be made. Its a whole collecting arena in itself.
Toy Solders HQ's cool website gives us a clue just how many MPC dinosaurs there are and that's just one brand!
Do you recall any plastic dinosaurs and do you still have any readers?
What you have there are known as TimeeToy dinos here in the states. They have been around for my entire life and I'm almost 50.I was a dinosaur fanatic as a kid, and it all started one Christmas with a Marx Prehistoric Times playset. Combining dinosaur and cavemen in a mountainous environment completely blew my mind!Once all my friends and relatives learned of my passion,it was easy to shop for me.I received endless bags, boxes and blister packs of Marx, MPC,Superior, Timmeetoy and Tootsietoy dinos and even more generic and obscure brands. Those that didn't get buried in the sandbox or left at the beach or playground now reside in my attic, and sometimes are brought down for nephews, nieces and grandkids to play with.Any modern flea market or collectible store has bins with hundreds, even thousands of these little beasties for the picking.I love to sift through a pile of them and find the rare creature that Ive never seen before.
ReplyDeleteIs that the same timmeetoy that released the space sets including the turtle and the ape and the computer operative? I think the new owner once commented on the blog years ago. I wish I'd have bought the four dinosaurs last weekend. They were only a pound! Alas, me and missus Moonbase are trying to reduce our possessions as we prepare to downsize in the next five years. That means very few new toys for yours truly, dammit!
DeleteYes,the new TimmeeToy guy's name is Jeff and he sells toys through Victorybuy.com.I bought the space and fantasy figure sets through Amazon.com.They are still available along with soldiers ,cavemen and cowboys&indians.Worth at least a look for nostalgia's sake
DeleteCool Brian. About four years ago a chap from Victory Buy contacted the blog about how they reuse the Timmee moulds. They still have a site https://victorybuy.com/collections/plastic-army/brand_tim-mee-toys
DeleteMaybe this is old news now.
Just clicked on the link to ToysoldierHQ. Yep, my childhood just flashed before my eyes! Those blister cards came to me in droves on my birthday and Christmas. All those mountains you see are based on the molds that made the Marx Prehistoric Times Playset.Theres lots of different configurations, but the classic is;Mountain, bridge and cave with pond in that order.
ReplyDeleteCool stuff Brian. You know your Marx too. I never had a mountain play set I don't think. I had a dinosaur and fossil hunting kit in a box with a rock hammer, magnifying glass and fossil ID booklet. I can see it now but have never been able to find a picture of it since. Like all my stuff it was ditched in the mid seventies.
DeleteI recently got my hands on a Papo T-Rex, Woodsy. I'd certainly recommend Papo dinosaurs for quality and detail, although sadly they're not cheap.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of Papo Tone. I had Pyro or Revell dinosaurs as a kid, not sure which.
DeletePapo Toys are quite modern, Woodsy. They make a variety of figures including knights, pirates, cowboys, indians, animals, dinosaurs, etc. Great for kids of any age :)
ReplyDeletesend us some snaps Tone!
DeleteI stopped myself buying these in 'The Works' yesterday!
ReplyDeleteH
