VAN WILLIAMS R.I.P.

Sad to hear that Van Williams, who played the masked crime-fighter, The Green Hornet in the cult short -lived, but popular sixties TV series has died aged 82.

Our sincere condolences to his family.

Sad news indeed Scoop. I only saw a few episodes of the Green Hornet as a kid but I loved it. Van's partnership with Bruce Lee was inclusive and groundbreaking giving Us our first taste of Kung Fu. RIP Van.

It is sad as 2016 claims yet another actor made famous during our generation
While the Green Hornet TV series wasn't shown here in the UK, many in our age group enjoyed his exploits in TV Tornado comic,and played with the Corgi Black Beauty. Bruce Lee co-starring in the show certainly helps with its cult status. Sadly most people these days will simply associate The Green Hornet with the recent disappointing film.

Yes, our now middle-aged generation has lost a lot of our pop culture heroes this year. For what it's worth, Scoop, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your Green Hornet series of articles. Yes the modern film was dire but I did watch it all. I realise now that I know why watching the TV series seems vague, it wasn't on here was it! The character of the Green Hornet was nevertheless on our radar as Sixties kids. I had the Annual and the beautiful Black Beauty. I loved the little plastic Green Hornet hanging out of the window and I absolutely adored the green jeweled lights at the front of the car. Strange what we remember. The wise Van will once again get to meet up with the young Bruce, who died when he was just 33.
