I've blogged about the sanitisation of certain toys before.
What I mean is how certain public domain genres have been cuddled-down to create safe and soft play when in fact they were in reality very bloodthirsty.
In the world of toys these neutralised characters include pirates, cowboys and Indians, knights and the modern crew member, Ninjas. They surface in certain toy shops as glove puppets, soft toys, wooden plaques and so on.
Its a strange phenomenon considering the ever- increasing levels of violence in other areas of childrens' media like computer games and film. Maybe its a reaction to this very thing?
I always come across sanitised toys when I'm on the Continent. I suppose the UK's Early Learning Centre adopted similar characters when they were on the High Street.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about or is just me?
