Besides cars, spacecraft and planes, another regular staple of childhood were boats. Often a trip to Woolies would result in me getting a carded set of plastic boats, a 'Marine Flotilla', usually consisting of a hovercraft, liner, cabin cruiser and a freighter. Getting them home, i'd stand on a chair and fill up the kitchen sink. The stainless steel drainer became the docks and the sink the mighty Atlantic.
Nowdays, i'm too busy washing endless dishes to play, but yesterday I took time out to get a snap of my Matchbox Sea Kings Harbour playset, an incomplete lot of parts including jetties, harbour walls, heliport and dockside cranes. I had picked up a handful ofthe plastic ships that came with it, at the last toyfair I went to with Scoop and Woodsy, so it was good to finally get the main part of the set. Just need the oil rig and the lighthouse for it now!
Funny, I was lookinf at the old Kleeware set not an hour ago...it came with its own sink...at carpet level!
