Another Project Sword model that comes with the Aoshima UFO
Moonbase is the popular Moon Prospector.
Again, this is almost a perfect miniature of the larger
Century 21 toy, and would have first appeared in Imai’s UFO Secret Doom Centre and
UFO Space Science series.
This early Imai box artwork takes its inspiration from the illustration
in the Sword Annual, using the same colours of the Prospector in the Annual painting
rather than the colours of the actual toy, which is unsurprising as the artist
would have probably used the Annual as reference material.
One small difference is the non-alignment of the outrigger stabilising wheels on the tiny model. Everything else, like the rails surrounding the body is
fine, so the impression I get is that the model designer wanted to imply how
the vehicle would steer.
Here you can see how small the model Moon Prospector is
compared to the Century 21 toy.
Here's a comparison with the Spacex Prospector.
Next time it's the turn of the Scramble Bug
I think this is one of my favourite series of posts ever and this one is the business Scoop. I've waited 8 years to see the Aoshima Prospector stood next to the C21 Prospector and I never thought I would! Superb. And what a stunning paint job you've done on the miniature in its C21 colours. A perfect copy of the big Prospector. How does it compare to the SpaceX toy in terms of detail?
ReplyDeleteThe best thing is for me to add a photo so you can judge for yourself, Woodsy.
