When I was an anklebiter we used to make up silly book titles and authors. There were loads of 'em and mostly all having some naughty schoolyard innuendo. The ones that have stuck in my memory are:
1. Falling Knickers by Lucy Lastic
2. Rusty Bedsprings by I.P. Knightly
3. Short Skirts by Eileen Dover
Later on when wit conquered toilet humour I would trade book names with chums, names like:
1. Wholesome Food by Arty Meals
2. Old Carpets by Fred Bare
3. Getting Rich Quick by Slim Chance
4. Treppaning Today by Ed Akes
Did you come up with funny book titles and authors readers?
I seem to remember Ivor Bigun wrote one or two? But I thought Eileen Dover wrote Fall From a Cliff, while Autumn Walks by Russell Leevs was a popular choice down the Library of silliness!

Ivor Bigun, ha ha! I remember that one Hugh. You're right about Eileen Dover, I totally forgot the name of the book! I like the Russel Leaves name! Wonder if there's a book called Flaky Scalps by Dan Druff!
DeleteLocated amongst the sci fi novels we have Shooting Stars by Ray Gunn
ReplyDeleteIs that a real name? ha ha. There's some real but corny Actor names like Slim Pickens, Ione Sky but my fave has to be Rip Torn!
DeleteRay Gunn is made up, ha ha, but it would have made a great 50s sci fi pen name. Yep Woodsy, Rip Torn and Slim Pickens always put a smile on my face. Another I like is Tod Slaughter. An old time stage & film actor who often played the role of the dastardly maniac in old black and white macabre movies :D
ReplyDeleteTod Slaughter, yes. Even weirder is the fact that Tod is German for death! Another good actor name was Max Schreck who played the Thirties Nosferatu. It translates as Maximum Terror!
DeleteMax Schreck ! Hats off to you Woodsy, I can't beat that for a great name :) I think his Count Orlok stands the test of time and is one seriously scary movie vampyre. I must remember to take the cloves of garlic up stairs tonight... good night :D
