This was the the advert - Project Moon, showing the Lunar Climber, Moonship and Space Glider.
That same week's issue of TV21 also carried an ad for Regent Toys and Project Moon, showing the Apollo Rocket, Zero X and the Cape Kennedy play set.
This date was no coincidence as both issues were dated July 19, 1969, the day before the first Lunar Landing.
So did they actually make the Kennedy set with the correct Saturn V colours, rather than grey?
ReplyDeleteConsidering it appears they were just getting rid of surplus stock, I shouldn't think so Kevin, unless examples already existed.
DeleteIt's hard to say whether they even had different packaging from the original Sword ones. .
I'd love to see one of those Project Moon Mail Order lists. What a shame that project SWORD doesn't even get a mention and is relegated to a generic space title, Project Moon, like Scoop says, to cash in on the Moonlanding. I have a strange feeling that there were still project SWORD adverts in comics at the same time - I'd have to check that. Its interesting to note that they show the Sears/Tomy Apollo Saturn Rocket, with its dark top and not the C21 version which was entirely grey. In fact all the illustrations have been lifted from C21's own earlier trade advert, which oddly enough, also depicts the dark topped Apollo Saturn, one they didn't even sell!
ReplyDeleteI suppose its reasonable that these ads would the same illustrations that appeared on the Century 21 trade advert as none of those pictures show any Sword emblems.
ReplyDeleteI doubt whether Sword would have still been advertised anywhere at this point as these ads appeared after Sword had finished in TV21 (issue 235)
