Its Birthday exclusive time again folks! So here's the low down on this year's fun toy!
Back in 2009, all of six years ago, I made some small SWORD miniatures, which I called SWORDikins, after the popular Marx Rol-y-Kins miniatures of the Sixties.
Back in 2009, all of six years ago, I made some small SWORD miniatures, which I called SWORDikins, after the popular Marx Rol-y-Kins miniatures of the Sixties.
One of the SWORDikins I made was a small Scout 3, along with a reduced-size box. The Scout was made from a grey Micro Machines Star Destroyer, which I rather crudely painted up red and stuck on bits of black biro tubes for engines, as you can see here. It sort of worked!
These 2009 miniatures inspired last year's professionally-made Salvage Craft blog exclusive, so for this year's anniversary I thought we'd continue in the same vein - this time with a miniature Scout 3 custom! Yay!
Previous blogsclusives have tended to have very low runs of four or five, so this year I wanted to be able to make a few more. To do this I needed to source at least ten small 'Scout 3's''. Luckily I discovered that the Star Wars Monopoly Board Game included a small red plastic Star Destroyer, which was both similar to the Scout and in plentiful supply. Result!
Combining the Star Destroyers with the design talents of one Mister Bulloch, who has designed a box, badge and racing stripe, the full miniaturisation process went into full swing and produced a reduced boxed Scout 3 Joe 90 would have been proud of!
So, for this year's 7th Birthday blogsclusive I give you our own custom Miniature Scout '7', complete with small versions of the SWORD racing stripe, box, Scout specification sheet and an exclusive 'Sergeant' SWORD badge 'sticker' in the new colour of green designed by Bill [its actually a Royal Mail 'stamp' smiler].
Here's the first prototype, box and accessories I put together alongside my full-sized Scout 3 and box [alas, a repro too].
and here's the finished product, which we are offering for sale exclusively to Moonbase Central readers!
and here it is compared to the original and rare Century 21 Scout 3 toy [ OK, its not exact but with the SWORD stripe and blacked engines the impression is there and its a bit of fun after all!]
and the equally rare life-size Scout 3 box [ mine's a reproduction made from a scan of an original full size box, from which the miniature Scout 7 box has been made, along with some cleaning up and customising]
* original full size Scout 3 and repro box not for sale!
Our custom miniature Scout '7' toy with box and accessories, made exclusively for our 7th Moonbase Central birthday, can be yours for the princely sum of £3 [three pounds Stirling] plus shipping costs anywhere in the world. Payment will be solely via Paypal
Two thirds of the price simply recovers our costs and £1 will go towards the costs of making our next exclusive toy later in the year.
There are 10 Scout 7's available [ all just around 1 inch in length ] and you can reserve yours by stating clearly in the comments section at the foot of this post or by emailing me [here] that you would like one [one per reader only please].
Reservations will be on a strictly first come first served basis and I will then contact you with final payment instructions. The toys will be shipped later this month.
