Kevin D has just informed me that one of my very favourite space serials from 1969 is making a welcome return to BBC, next Monday. The Clangers and their small blue planet have been brought back to the small screen, by original creator Peter Firmin, Oliver Postgates son; Dan and production company Coolabi.
Amazingly, the characters and settings are absolutely identical to Smallfilms originals and ex-python and all round nice guy Michael Palin is doing the voice overs. Its good to see that a very successful formula and visual style has been re-imagined in wonderfully nostalgic detail. They certainly haven't dropped a clanger with this one.
Sounds great, although I will miss Oliver Postgate's amazing voice. Love the image with the prospector!
ReplyDeleteMe too andy, I grew up with Pogles Wood and Noggin the Nog.
ReplyDeleteGreat image I agree. Cheers Kevin! As for towd Clangers, I love 'em. Part of that crazy Sixties/ Seventies zanyness, which gave us Michael Bentine's Pottytime and Bill and Ben. Sheer nutty brilliance and we only had three channels. Now I'd be lucky to find anything other than 50 channels of shite!
