Just in case some readers aren't familiar with the Tri-ang Battle Space Turbo Car, here it is courtesy of You Tube's easta007.
Percevere with this short clip. The train enthusiast eventually gets some superb close-ups of the car zooming forwards and backwards. I don't own one so I have to ask, is it really propeller powered?
The propeller is driven by the same bog-standard small-loco motor driving the wheels...but in the Spacex universe....? The Japanese experimented with a prop-Bullet Train I seem to recall!
ReplyDeleteLooks to me it is actually driven by the propeller. Reverse the track current and it would start to spin backwards and pull the it backwards. Some beautiful shots of a pristene one here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRIANG-HORNBY-R752-BATTLE-SPACE-TURBO-CAR-NEW-BOXED-ah-/330648174020 Undercarriage shot here seems to me to show no gears to the wheels, motor directly connected to the propeller.

Sorry Lance - the 'magnadehsion' employed by Triang-Hornby (and most other electric train systems) holds the - quite weighty - locomotive firmly on the track. The locomotive power almost fights itself to propel the model and the propeller is purely for show/effect/decoration!
ReplyDeleteAlthough...I could be wrong if it's a free-wheeling model...but then it wouldn't corner without coming off?
ReplyDeleteApologies Lance...it is propeller powered (and doesn't corner well!)

eh?? I have four of these little beauties in my collection, and they absolutely fly on the track, it corners far better than a loco at speed, and is a fantastic addition to the triang Battle space range, its quite collectable, and they generally change hands for anything between $100 and $300, quite impressive to see, all in all, they are great, and the propeller drives it like a beast 100%.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone got the red and yellow one which is shown in the first picture ?
ReplyDeleteits an early pre-production sketch, so didn't make it to the final design. The rec, fish like one is the only version produced.
