A brief synopsis of the latest TAG episode, 'EOS'.
This episode answers some questions posed in last week's 'Runaway' episode were a computer virus compromised the testing of a high speed train.
After examining and identifing this virus John Tracy discovers it uses sub routines he, himself has created. This week's episode sees John fight for life as the virus takes over Thunderbird 5.
Shades of 2001: A Space Odyssey in this one. The focal point of the EOS virus is a circular lense reminiscent of HAL. I was half expecting EOS to say "I can't let you do that, John!"
Another nice aspect was the feeling of John's isolation in space, especially when he is cut off from Tracy Island.
Plenty of insights into the workings of Thunderbird 5 here to, although I'm not sure I'd get used to walking across its 'glass' floors, reminds me of the glass floor at the top of Blackpool tower!
All in all I found it an enjoyable story though , less juvenile than some we've seen, although I do think it's time to start having proper rescues that are caused by something other than clichéd computer glitches and relying on techno babble to solve the endings.
Great resume Scoop. Looks intriguing. Yet to watch this one but a big difference between now and 1966 and 1991 [hope they're right!] when TB was on telly before is we can watch whenever we like through ITViPlayer. Probably no good for kids but for a sleepyhead like me its a godsend! I only got up at half nine!
ReplyDeleteHope I haven't given too much away for you, lazy Woodsy. You should enjoy it though.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about ITV player, it kind of messes up that sense of occasion like we had in the sixties, when if you missed it, you missed it! (until the endless repeats, of course) : D
Sharon and I were up bright and early just before 8AM with great expectations after seeing the promo. We weren't disappointed! This for us [and especially Sharon] was the defining moment where the new series really came into its own...
ReplyDeleteThe screen captures really don't do the picture quality justice. I thought that this episode is without a doubt one of the best of the series, and when I say the series, I mean the whole lot, including seasons 1 & 2, plus both cinema films.
The only down point, could have done with Jeff Tracy.
Actually, the component that John went eva to replace was referred to as the AE35. The very same component that HAL disabled on the Discovery.
