Its give me great pleasure to write this post. Something a little different but still firmly rooted in the sci-fi mojo of Moonbase Central.
When I was a young teen in the mid Seventies I discovered David Cronenberg and his sci fi-horror. The first film I came across was Rabid, which I saw at the cinema with one Miss. Jones. This was followed by Shivers and many more, none of which are for the weak of stomach! But one film has always remained my favourite and I consider it the best: Scanners, made in 1981.
From the off Cronenberg's films portrayed a cold, bleak Canadian urban sprawl within which something horrible lurked, usually something being tampered with by greedy bio-chemists.
Scanners is no different. It concerns people with telekinetic powers. These are the Scanners of the title and the film revolves around growing Scanner Cameron Vale played brilliantly by Steven Lack and evil Scanner Darryl Revok played convincingly by Michael Ironside. The Prisoner's Patrick McGoohan features as the mad bio-scientist.
Having enjoyed Scanners the movie and even the tie-in novel for most of my life I decided to contact Stephen Lack, the Canadian actor who impressed me so much as Scanner Cameron Vale.
Stephen is an artist and has been for decades and it is with his kind permission that I'm showing a small selection of his art here on Moonbase Central. Stephen has a wonderful eye for form and colour and his subjects range from vintage cars to apocalyptic city life. Enjoy!

Beautiful paintings. I'll have a look at his website.
ReplyDeleteExtremely surreal and unsettling images, but quite wonderfully dreamlike. Love The Plane!
