If I had the dosh I'd probably collect the Action Man figures and costumes I had as a kid in the Sixties. One of my fave sets was this gorgeous Lifeguard featured on the Vectis website.
One thing I have always been fascinated with is military rank and I enjoyed placing medals onto my Palitoy Men.
A couple of years ago I found this ranked uniform at a flea market in Germany, part of the Adventure Team I think. No idea if the ribbons mean anything.
I remember the Iron Cross the best from when I was a kid. I also seem to recall bands of ribbons on some Palitoy costumes but can't think which. Does anyone recall Action Man ranks and ribbons?
I completely agree those dress uniforms are lovely, though sadly I never had any either when young (and managed to resist temptation in later life :)
ReplyDeleteOff the top of my head, and limited to the outfits we had, the battle dress of the British soldier and the red tunic of the RCMP Mountie have ribbons above the breast pocket. The battledress has corporal's stripes iirc. I also remember a set of stick-on pips and crowns that I think came with the British officer in the Colditz set but that's as far as this senile brain can recall.
As to what ribbons they might be I'd have to go dig them up which is tricky right now. The ribbons in your picture I can't clearly make out I'm afraid, but if you'd scan the jacket I can have a try.
Best -- Paul
ha ha, your 'senile' brain is working well enough Paul! You've remembered much more than me. I can almost feel the pleasure I used to get as the metal spikes of the medals pierced the material of Action Man's tunic.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Adventure Team uniform, alas, it went to a new squadron some time ago via the Ebay Army Recruiting Office!
