Hi Woodsy,
You mentioned the Petrol station coins Man in Flight. Here's a scan of my set, with a detail showing the space-related coins.
I think they were released around 1970. Unfortunately due to indifferent storage a couple of the coins have some sort of corrosion product on - not sure what to do about this.
All the best,
Andy B.

those are very cool!
ReplyDelete@Andy - My coins have corrosion too. I was thinking of steel wool for the worst of it, and Brasso for the rest. There is a chance however that that may also take off any yellow colouring on white metal, if that is how they were made (I've managed to mislay my sets again, so can't check).
ReplyDelete@Woodsy: I do have decent scans of my sets, one from Holland and one from France, 20 coins each, which I'll happily send over?
Best -- Paul
I remember Gulf stations also giving out space program related merchandise, the most notable the cardstock model of the Lunar Lander.
ReplyDeleteAll these freebies made getting Petrol fun! Well at least for us kids! I've seen that GULF Lander on the 'bay Patron. Didn't they also issue a Major Matt Mason figure?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the advice Paul,
ReplyDeletethough I would be worried that this is a soft alloy which steel wool may scratch. When I get round to it I may try gentle abrasion with a wood toothpick to start with.
