The first set of Greek LP knockoff astronauts I came across online were these greys by Petalo, which came in a bucket.
The next lot I saw were these whites [?] also by Petalo, but this time in a distinctive box. They appear to come with a hut, sandbags and signpost - very handy on the Moon! The circular things are model jets I think and came in the bucket set too.
The next set I found online is my favourite because, uniquely, they form the playing pieces of a Greek board game! They appear to be silvers with painted accessories. I'm not sure what's in the other game compartments or who the maker is. It has to be only LP astronaut board game around or? Anyone got this game?
So I was pleasantly surprised this week to see yet another and different box set of Greek LP's. This time by a company called Solpa. They appear to be greys or silvers and come with a colour leaflet.
Here's a loose Solpa grey I saw elsewhere. None of these Greek LP's. loose or sets, are cheap [that's money I'm talking about!] and seem far more expensive than other knockoff LP's. Why is that?
Woodsy, love the figures and coverage but I saw something I think is unusual. Notice the set of astronauts with sandbag and Quonset hut? Quonset hut. I'm not sure if the figures are actually made in Greece or whether they're made in Asia for playsets cobbled together throughout the globe, but someone out there in the wide world has a love affair with Quonset huts because I'm even seeing them in el cheapo fire & police sets and little green army men sets from Wal-Mart, and American Civil War playsets. The Quonset hut was a further development of the Nissen hut developed by the British in WWI, nearly 50 years AFTER the Civil War! Now we have them on the Moon. Amazing, simply amazing....
ReplyDeleteSo that's what it is Ed, a quonset hut. Never heard of that so I've learnt something. I thought it was a Wild West log cabin to be honest! It is a very strange thing to include with astronauts as is the section of sandbags, which would have limited value on the Moon I should think. The circular sprues of jets are also odd and cheap looking and I imagine they turned up in other cheapo sets. Its odd how these Greek sets are so expensive on Ebay Ed.
ReplyDeleteIt's odd, but in many years of eBay buying I've only gotten one item from Greece and it was a Japanese tin litho airliner because the Greek made (or packaged) items are indeed quite pricey.
