The ninth issue of the Eaglemoss Batman Automobilia and the Batmobile that made it’s debut in Batman #5, Spring 1941.
Prior to it’s appearance, Batman simply used a red convertible belonging to Bruce Wayne. However, this ‘specially built high powered auto’ had Batman’s personality stamped all over it.
Strangely enough, in it’s debut story it’s destroyed by the Joker, forced of a cliff into a ravine below. However, the very next story had the Caped Crusader using an identical vehicle.
Sporting a giant bat’s head at the front and a huge scalloped tail fin at the rear this Batmobile would remain for nine years until it was replaced in Detective Comics # 156. http://projectswordtoys.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/the-batmobile-of-1950.html
During it’s time it did manage to feature on the cover of Batman # 20, December 1943/January 1944, illustrated by Dick Sprang.
The Eaglemoss model is certainly a thing of beauty with some lovely detail.
The lenticular backdrop shows Gotham at night, although in my opinion I don’t find the picture particularly inspiring.
But, in spite of that, I reckon Eaglemoss have produced another super little collectable.
Join me next time when I check out the sporty looking Batmobile from Batman # 311.
I think I like the paint scheme on this version more than I do the Corgi version. The ioverall design still remains cool classic Batman.
