Linda [Hong Kong] is not a toy company I'm very familiar with but I've noticed a few of their toys online over the past few years. One that caught my eye is their "Space Captain Flying Saucer with Catapult" pictured here on its original shop display card [right]. The toy appears to be flying disc reminiscent of a space station.
The header art is particularly lovely and shows the space station tie-in really well. I have no idea how the toy worked but I assume that the catapult sent the disc flying.
The Linda saucers remind me greatly of the Japanese Flying Space Rocket [above] which involved a similar disc and presumably what appears to be a catapult too. The Project SWORD artwork header card is beautiful and makes this one of the rarer SWORD related toys I would still love to have in my collection. If only!
I don't know much about Linda. Where they innovators or cloners? They made some nice snow domes including the Daleks [above] and I think Fireball XL5.
They made these neat window boxed Mobile Combat Team sets too, which remind me of how LP boxed up thier Apollo Moon Exploring sets. Does anyone know more about Linda [Hong Kong]?
As far as I can tell they were a trade mark for Blue Box, the contents of the Mobile Combat Team is 100% BB, as are Linda farm sets.
ReplyDeleteIt may have been the 'cheepie' imprint (rich coming from BB!) or 'bought-in' as they include poor copies of Timpo ACW in Linda packs, or they may have been an 'European' imprint as a lot of their stuff seems to come via German or French eBay'ers, however some was sold in the UK.

I loved those Linda Space Captain Saucers! I had a new one of those nearly every week. The base is a carboard disk with a simple bubble of light plastic on top. They flew, really well, so consequently disappeared over the fence, or underfoot with monotonous regularity. Ive been trying to find one of these for years!
