The 20p Matchbox Planet Scout I picked up at the weekend has benefitted from a quick redeco. Drilling out the rivets beneath allows the body to be popped open and the glass cleaned and body resprayed. A coat of orange auto paint brings it into the realms of Spacex! I'm still keen to find a Gorgo minilunar version to complete my trio.
Gog left an
very informative comment with attendant website which does indeed show many colour variations!

I never knew the Planet Scout came in that many differet colors. The one I had was the 2-toned Yellow /Green one in the fourth photo.I went through a phase where Matchbox vehicles were my favorite toys(somewhere between Mego Superheroes and Kenner Star Wars).I usually went for construction vehicles, but futuristic vehicles were always an exception.Planet Scout was in my opinion one of the best.
ReplyDeleteWell technically it only comes in two - the classic green at bottom and the Adventure 2000 green with purple windows. The red/green one is the Gorgo.
ReplyDeleteHoly cow Bill that was quick work! You don't let any grass grow under your feet that's for sure. Very nice job, it looks great.
ReplyDeleteWell its a half hour quick fix Ed, just take the mini drill to the rivets and either take off the old coat of paint with wire wool and stripper, or set to with acrylic car paint. This being a cheap buy, its kind of disposable, so if it goes wrong, no harm done!
ReplyDeleteHi Bill,
ReplyDeleteNice job.
There is also a red version of this car, and some rare issues, prototypes and so on.
