I recently acquired this rather nice bump ‘n’ go flying saucer toy.
Here it is landing in my back garden!
I've seen examples of this toy quite a few times on several auction sites but so far I’ve not seen anyone give the makers name.
Generally it seems to be referred to as a NASA flying saucer presumably because of the NASA logo sticker on it.
It's around 5" across and the only markings on it are ‘Made in Hong Kong’ and ‘T29’.
Has anyone else got one of these with maybe it’s original box or packaging?
Any info on it would be most welcome.
Very cool acquisition! I've been tempted to pick up vintage bump-&-go toys but they tend to be a little pricey. For now I'll just admire from afar.
ReplyDeleteI had a very similar saucer in an old Tomy Gyroscope set. I'll dig out some piccies and see if its the same one. Nice find Scoop and how did you get it to fly?
ReplyDeleteThis looks like it Scoop I think, the saucer from the Tomy Jupiter Jyro set currently on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Battery-Operated-Jupiter-Jyro-Set-Box-/120998415539?pt=Electronic_Battery_Windup_Toys_US&hash=item1c2c114cb3
ReplyDeleteand a single boxed one on Alphadrome

Waddaya reckon Mike? Is it yours?
I checked out Alphadrome and they don't appear to have an example of it, boxed or otherwise. The Tomy Saucer certainly looks like it's from a similar mould though it's not the same. Maybe your hunch about it being Tomy might be right though - It might be what the 'T' stands for under the saucer.
ReplyDeleteNice one, Woodsy.
When I was a kid I had one that was identical apart from the fact that the canopy was blue. In fact it might still be in the attic.
ReplyDeleteHere's one much like the gyro-saucer I had as a child.
