Gentlemen (and lady) start your engines! after yesterdays foray into the world of toy cars, here are more delicacies from the Wotan Archive. Above is the Mercedes Benz 220 se, the starting point for my collecting wich would continue for the next 47 years and beyond. Not my first toy, that distinction belongs to a small yellow vinyl rabbit, but the point at which i was introduced to collecting a regular series of toys from a larger range. Following on from this comes a variety of my favourite early toys, especially tankers, as my childhood ambition after getting into space was to be a tanker driver!

Love the Budgie tankers, Wote.
ReplyDeleteI know it's a bit of a long shot coz you'd have probably posted a pic by now but you don't have the Budgie version of the Airport Fire Tender, do you?
The Corgi Junior Wigwam Van Camper is messing with my head a little, because I feel very strongly as if I recognize it but would have sworn I never owned it. Or did I? I'm so confused! Could I have merely seen it in a shop? I can't imagine that I'd ever have passed by something that looked so...Century 21, you know?
ReplyDelete(And what was the original vehicle to inspire it?)
HMM - dont think i have the budgie crash tender, ill have a check on eds diecast website. I know ive got an AA van and motorbike and a couple of other random models, but my dad got the Budgie models and sort of slipped them into the mix when i was young.
ReplyDeleteWigwam Camper - im not sure if its based on a real motor, Corgi tended towards more realistic models than matchbox, but it could be a pure fantasy. Its from about 1974 i think.
MIKE - re the Budgie Crash Tender, i just looked at: http://www.diecast.plus.com/
ReplyDeleteand cant see it in the Budgie section. From memory, i do have numbers:4 6 7 10 21 24 25 26 and 452
Wote, Woodsy kindly sent me an article from a die cast toy magazine and it had the Budgie Tender in it. Never seen it before. Similar to the Matchbox one but with a neat little pull out hose at the back.
ReplyDeletenope - ive a couple of fire engines, bu the Budgie models i have are all pretty basic, with no special features. It must have been a later, larger model. I have almost all the early matchbox up to the late seventies, most of the Corgi Juniors, some hot wheels and corgi rockets and the odd Impy and Majorette.
ReplyDeleteWow, sounds like quite a collection, Wote.
ReplyDeleteIf Woodsy has no objection I'd be happy to pass on the die cast article to you when I get in from work tonight.
No probs!
