Above is the ARGO Lunar Vehicle as it appears on their website. Recently Argo were "named as part of a consortium designing lunar rovers for the Canadian Space Agency". They also have a Lunar Rover.
Above is Moonstream as designed by student Anthony Sims.
For my money, these concepts have not moved on that far from the Sixties designs, which inspired moon vehicles in SWORD and SpaceX. What do you think?
the moonstream looks great, but theyre clearly not taking into consideration any requirement other than serenely rolling along a lunar plain. Neither vehicle could be expected to take on any kind of gradient. We have enough trouble getting a Fiat Punto up a 1in 20 hill round here! Its all a bit form over function. You need a good MEV based vehicle i reckon!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Wote. The thinking is (excuse the unintentional pun) too rigid.
ReplyDeleteDo you know what the "ARGO" pic puts me in mind of? With the astronaut standing at the back, and the separate unit behind, it makes me think of Stephenson's (Stevenson's?) Rocket. (smiles). Can you see what I mean?
ha ha - yes very similar. Just needs an astronaut witha top hat and tails!
ReplyDeleteTop hat and tails? Yes, a much better class of astronaut, don't you know.
