I was recently lucky enough to win this superbCricket P1 replica made from a larger army version of the familiar toy. Id always wondered if it might be possible to make such a model from one of the big friction toys, but various technical limitations meant the best I could do was a mocked up Apollo Tracker from a standard Spacex Cricket. As it turned out, the creator of the big Cricket was a professional modelmaker who I had met some years before and it was a pleasure to make his acquaintance once more. Kevin Davies has made some superb full scale replicas of famously iconic vehicles and characters from Anderson shows and BBCs Blakes Seven and Dr Who. He kindly sent me the following shots of his awesome creations:
Orac from Blakes 7 lights up in the correct way and does the right background sound. It is key operated and made mainly from perspex.
Nomad from Star Trek lights up and speaks sample phrases from the episode. He is made from wood, metal and plastic.
Dalek Sec has lights, speech and radio control movement of his head and eye. I intend to motorize him in the end. He is mainly MDF and fibreglass.
K9 is radio controlled, lights up and speaks. He is made of wood and aluminium.
Polyphase Avatron from the doctor Who episode 'The Pirate Planet' lights up and moves by radio control.
There will be more of Kevs amazing work to follow very soon!
If it's the same Kevin then, he's has had a fascinating career. On a Sword-Anderson related theme he did the credits for Gerry's Terrahawks.
ReplyDeleteThose replicas are incredible.
ReplyDeleteNo, I'm not the same Kevin Davies as the animator on Terrahawks (and Hitch-Hiker), I'm not a professional either, but it was kind to say so!
