Continuing the Christmas specials, here we see the picture sleeve for Cliff Richard and the Shadows EP released to coincide with the movie THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO (Without an exclamation mark unlike the one featured on the record here) Later re-issued in the 1980s in 12 Inch form this is the original release and includes the song SHOOTING STAR which was performed by Cliff Richard Junior, as he was referred to in the film, and the mini 'Shads'.
Although ultimately a disappointment at the box office for those responsible for its production the Swinging Star sequence is perhaps the most memorable part of the film along with of course the appearance of Zero X.
Hank Marvin and Brian Bennett, along with Sir Cliff himself, have spoken of their pride in being involved in THUNDERBIRDS and when Cliff appeared on Frank Skinner's chat show some years back actually performed the song again to a live audience. The mighty Zero X was of such merit that it even warranted a 'theme' of its own which is performed in typical 'Shadows' style along with another original composition 'Lady Penelope'. Jim Lewis
Top stuff as usual Jim. I have the remains of Zero X. The front landing wheel assembly. Brian Matthew played"Shooting Star" last Saturday in the "EP Spot" of his "Sounds of the Sixties" show on BBC Radio 2. It may still be on Iplayer if you're interested to hear it. About 1h 10m in.
ReplyDeleteBLIMEY!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAny chance you could take a picture of that for the ZERO X enthusiasts to see here?
Great to hear that stations are still giving this old record a spin now and then too!
