Blog Exclusive this November: originally posted way back in 2008 by Canadian reader Darth but since buried under two years of blogging, here it is again to print out and keep - the rare Century 21 Ltd SWORD Scout ID A4 sheet, which came folded inside each of the three Scouts boxes. I have marked this as a copy and should be reproduced as such for your own personal 'fan' use.
As regards the history of this ID guide, my assumption is that the SWORD Official Manual was too large to be folded and put inside the small Scout boxes so Century 21 came up with this simple paper ID sheet as a replacement. The Scout boxes didn't include the badges either. I base this theory on my own toys and boxes. Please let me know if you know any different.
From my experience as a youngster, the scout ships were released well after the ones issued with the Manual- perhaps one and a half or two years later. I assume they were not planned for originally.
ReplyDeleteGreat to have a copy of the sheet, thanks.
So maybe the reason was that they didn't want the expense of printing more manuals, and took this less expensive route? Thanks, Andy.
ReplyDeleteI don't reckon a manual could fit in the Scout boxes but I'll experiment after tea. Has anyone ever seen an ad for the scouts?
ReplyDeletePS. No mention of the Moonbase on the Scout ID sheet!
No mention of the Moonbase cos it's gone ... FOREVER!
ReplyDeleteAm guessing they knew by then it wasn't to be ... unless Andy saw what he thought he saw (which I am still hoping was so).
No mention of the Task Force 1-3 on the sheet either!
ReplyDeleteAnd come to think of it, I am not sure the Task Force boxes had the manual in?
Not Forever, nooooooooooooo!
ReplyDeleteI;m hoping it;ll turn up under the Crimble tree this year nicely wrapped in the luvverly xmas gift wrap my Mum used in the Sixties! Can you still get rolls of old gift wrap? I tried on t'ebay a while back and nada!
I hope it turns up under you Crimble tree too, Woodsy! Take lots of photos if it does, please!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm just not convinced the absence of the manuals was anything to do with the size of the boxes. A thought ... were the Scouts the same company? Maybe they just didn't have those manuals?
Pretty sure they came with the badges. The boxes say "Comes with badge and specification sheet" on the end flaps. My Scout 1 came with a badge but the Scout 2 was missing its badge.
