Wandering aroung Harrogate today I came across an Old Brooke Bond tea card album 'History of Aviation'. At the back I was chuffed to see the Northrop Lifting body. Five minutes later I was in the Works bookshop staring at a NASA Scramble Bug prototype in the Look and Learn Annual [reduced to £4.99 in the shop!]. I was again chuffed and the coincidence got me thinking. I wonder if I'll see any more SWORD-type stuff? Lo and behold, in Oxfam's bookshop I found a 1967 Thunderbirds Annual with a Zero-X strip, which was trumped 2 minutes later with the Project SWORD strips [Loyal and the Dead etc] in the 1969 TV21 Annual! Wow! The whole Yorkshire Spa adventure set off a train of thought about a possible game for blog readers! And having worked on it a bit here it is: SWORDPLAY! En Guard!
The rules are simple: clock up as many SWORD/SPACEX - type sightings in a single day, add them up using the score table below and send them as a comment on this post!
Sightings can be books, records, pictures, models, toys, gum cards, fun fair rides, jigsaws, magazines, anything really but it MUST be in the 'real' world and NOT online! So no websites [like this!] just shops, museums, toy fairs, friends homes, holiday resorts - anywhere really! Oh yes, but NO collections! An element of chance is needed to enjoy Swordplay!
Scoring:
Athos Rattle! 5 points - any RELATIVES of SWORD/SPACEX like a Tarheel helicopter, a T in a Circle boat, a JR21 Thunderbird 2, an LP rocket, almost anything you think fits really!
Portos Parry! 10 points - any SOURCE designs of SWORD/SPACEX vehicles like a NASA concept for the ANT in a book, a picture of a beoing DYNA SOAR in a magazine, a model of SATURN V and GANTRY in a museum, a NORTHROP tea card in an album, a LAMA in the film Green Slime [not You Tube!], Space Voyagers DYNA SOAR or Lifting Body in a Toy Shop and so on!
Aramis Lunge! 20 points - any ACTUAL SWORD, SPACEX, GOLDEN ASTRONAUT, APOLLO MOON EXPLORING or toy/plaything/strip which is clearly a copy or replica of them such as an LP Moon Bus, A Randy Rayder LP sleeve showing a Probe Force 1, a T in a Circle Prospector, A Tarheel Moon Ranger, a Hoover Booster Rocket, an LP Moon Prospector, an Aoshima Zero-X or Moonbase, a SWORD strip in SOLO comic, a SWORD Make A Model book, a SWORD strip in TV21 comic or annual and so on!
D'Artagnan Swashbuckle! 40 points - special award for sightings of ANY form [fun fair rides, models, photos, paintings etc] of NUCLEAR FERRY, MOONSHIP, LUNAR CLIMBER OR SPACEX'S Rocket Transporter, Crash Tender, Nuclear Freighter and Salvage Craft, Space Station, Soyuz OR ANY BOXED LARGE SETS like Spacex/GA Supersets, Imai Big Base/Doom Base, Apollo Exploring Large Set and so on!
Errol Flynn's Zorro! 50 points - ANY sighting in ANY form of the SWORD MOONBASE SET [picture in the manual, description in a trade journal or even, God Forbid, the actual thing!]
You can play anytime, anywhere. Post as many Swordplays as you want [a Swordplay takes place in one day]. We'll keep a running tab on the highest scores and scorers over the year. My decision will be final, disputes will not be entered into and I won't be duelling with you at dawn! So en guard Swordheads! Get Swordplaying!
